A/N: Hello! Sorry for not updating this, I was too busy with my other two fics that I forgot this one. Sorry again.
Five days to go before complete freedom arrives, just a little more! I'm really curious about the flow of the events in the anime of Infinite Stratos. It just arrived in the volume 8 already, what could be the events in 11th and 12th episode? I'm really hyped! Also April 2014 is the grand showing of Mahouka anime! Yes! Really excited to see the most badass MC to take the field! I also hope that the Infinite Stratos has season 3 planned, though it may be unlikely but I still hope that it would come true.
On another note, I'm really impressed at the fast translation of the Mahouka LN, in no time the volume 12 of the LN will be complete.
Disclaimer: I don't own Infinite Stratos (except my OCs), it belongs to Izuru Yumizuru.
Family Bonding (?):
'Ugh! That was bad!'
I went and spout out my irritation while I walked down the long flight of stairs from Ichika's mansion. Those bitches just have to go and ruin my time with Ichika, honestly, everytime I want to spend some time alone with him they start popping out of nowhere and ruin everything. If he is not there I swear I would like have the heads of those five hanging on my wall. Ichika, he is much at fault too! He is too kind and whenever he sees them he outright invites them! That idiot!
Sigh.
Well I can't do anything about that, that is how he is and to be frank…. I really like that about him no matter how irritating it is.
(WHOOOOOOOOOSH)
I didn't notice that it is 11pm already, I certainly lost track of time whenever I'm with him, same for my fellow prodigies too. I'm getting the feeling that all of us are turning into doting idiots towards Ichika. How can he be capable of this? He can dispel our auras even our killing-intents with just his mere smile, he is still not trained yet to fully bring out his own power but he is already capable of counteracting ours. He can be very powerful if guided correctly.
(WHOOOOOOOOOSH)
The wind blew pretty cold now, it's near winter now so this should be no surprise. Snow would probably fall soon seeing as the trees are now losing their leaves. I wonder if Ichika would like to spend some time playing in the snow with me. He has always been very happy in playing with snow. Come to think of it if there is anything that I would compare Ichika's personality, it would be snow. The pure whiteness of the first falling snow is very comparable to Ichika's kindness.
Ufufufufufufufufu…..EH!
'Snap out of it!'
Did I just giggle; I really need to slap myself to be awake of this madness!
'Damn it!'
I really did start slapping myself.
What is happening to me?
By all means I should be mad at him; he just let his dense nature ruin the time that is only supposed to be ours alone. I went with him to his mansion so that I can spend time with him but it was for naught when he invited those five and to top it off I have to return to my own quarters by myself and walk in this freezing wind of the night.
But….
That would be too childish and too denying of me. That is who he is and I learned to accept that already and complaining like a spoiled brat is just making me look like a fool.
Sigh.
In the end I ended up running, hurrying to my own mansion so that I can rest myself.
After only 5 minutes of running and leaping I'm now here at the gate of my own mansion. As always everytime this blasted gate opens it produced a very annoying creaking. Seriously, with all the wealth in our hands but still this damn automatic gate is not fixed.
'Welcome back! Chifuyu-sama.'
My attendants are always at the ready to greet whenever I go and comeback in my mansion, though the greeting is very respectful it lacks life, sometimes I think that my attendants are secretly zombies. Well it doesn't really bother me anyway; emotions are useless in our clan only proficiency is recognized here.
'Ready my bath.'
I threw my command as I went up to my quarters in the second floor. I walked in the long flight of stairs that leads to the next floor, really, no matter how much I try to look at it in a different angle, this mansion of mine is too exaggerated. I mean this stairs are way too long and the design of the house made me feel like I'm living in the ancient times.
'(Sigh)'
I just exhaled, too much stress been accumulated by my body today but also I did have some pretty good moments. Especially with Ichika…. hehehehehehehe… his lips are pretty soft and warm when I kissed him.
Wait a minute!
Did I just think that!?
What the hell! Snap out of it, Ichika is your little brother Chifuyu; don't get any weird thoughts about him! Don't even think about taking advantage of his innocent nature to fulfill your lurid desires!
'This is pretty tiring…'
Well after a few minutes of continuous conflict with myself, I finally arrived in my bath house. I took off all of my clothes in an instant and jumped on the warm and comforting waters of the artificial hot spring.
'Ahhhhh…'
This is the best; the warm water is relieving all of my stress, it would be even better if Ichika is with me….
Alright stop that trail of thought Chifuyu. Seriously, I should stop defiling my little brother in my thoughts. Ichika is pure, his innocence is something I want to preserve, I don't want it tarnished, not even by my own dirty hands.
But really…. That boy has no sense of danger, is innocence or rather his denseness is too strong that he can't even detect the imminent danger around him. Instead he just smiles and ignores the hostile environment. Don't get me wrong though that is one of his abilities that I admire, he is not afraid; he is not fazed by the overwhelming presence of everyone around him. Sometimes I wonder if he is really born in this clan. Think about it, his is nothing like us; I can't even imagine him harming a fly. He's like an angel trapped in the masses of demons.
But it would be far-fetched right, no matter how much I doubt it, he is an Orimura. Though he doesn't possess any of our blood-curdling traits, he can still inspire awe in a very subtle way. My question earlier now that I think about it is wrongly directed, not if he is really from this clan but whose trait he inherited? That by the way is directed to my parents. Well cross that out again, I think I t is obvious who Ichika inherited his 'odd' behavior from.
My father.
He could be the only one; innocence and kindness don't go along at all with my mother. My mother is the perfect example of mercilessness, maliciousness, oppressiveness…. Basically she is the poster girl for evil humans, so the laughable thought of Ichika inheriting his unique values from her is a very laughable idea. So I guess all things point to one person, mother's elusive husband.
'…'
Who is he? Why is his identity so closely-guarded? And more importantly how the hell did he even married mother. He must be crazy and tired of living, that maybe the reason why he did it or maybe my mother kidnapped him and turned him into her personal toy of pleasure.
But then, to be able to withstand a long time with my mother even having four children with her, he must be someone who is really strong to stand a long relationship with mother, all of us with the exception of Ichika, cannot even stand her presence for an hour but he was able to be with mother for a years, that alone stands as a testament of his idiocy…. I mean strength. But still I'm very curious about him, who is he?
'….'
Due to my deep thinking, I slip past my perception of time and failed to notice that an hour has passed already since I entered the bath house. Everytime I think about my father, who I have never even seen for once in my life, always rouses my interest. My curiosity about him is a great as my curiosity on Ichika's 'weirdness'.
'!'
Infinite Stratos Season 3 Episode 1
I stood up in an instant, I felt a strange presence. It wasn't a tremor in the earth or anything caused by natural forces but it was a strange feeling. It came without warning, sweeping past me like the silent whisper of the wind of the autumn season, preluding the winter grip. I cannot describe it, it is overwhelming but gentle, it's like my mother's aura but considerably kinder but also carries an eerie feel to it.
I rose quickly from the warm relaxing water of the artificial and hurriedly grabbed and wore the robe hanging in the bath house.
'Ah!?'
'Chifuyu-sama!'
My attendants who just arrived were shocked when I came running out of the bath house in just a robe and ran full speed. I paid no attention to them, my interest lies in that strange presence alone. I will uncover what that is.
(Scene Change) (Normal POV)
Ichika's mansion, Ichika's bedroom.
After the prodigies left, Ichika is now in his bedroom getting ready to sleep. The young scion of the Orimura clan was not alone though, he had six of his attendants with him, but they are there not just to guard him closely.
'Hey Sora-nee! Let's play tag!'
Ichika played with his attendants like a boy who was ecstatic in playing with the people he is fond of. This act is always very appalling to the other members of the clan; the Orimura clan is very adhering to the whole caste system, division among masters and slaves are very rigid and every member of the clan is required to treat slaves as how slaves should be treated. Slaves are just slaves and are in no way allowed to be close to the masters they serve, save for a very few that have been lucky (?) enough to be trusted by the members of the clan. But other than that, inappropriate conduct is severely punished. But now here is the problem, Ichika brushes off that principle and goes around acting very friendly with the slaves and to top it off the servants are also reciprocating his friendly attitude. Despite reprimands from some of the members that saw him, Ichika stubbornly continued to be affable to the slaves. The news spread very fast and when Izanami found out about Ichika's odd behavior of being kind and very affectionate to the servants; the matriarch almost had all of the disrespectful servants executed for being too friendly with her son, all 199 servants have been subjected to execution. But they were spared by Ichika's begging, though the rest of the clan members who knew are all in favor of ending the lives of the servants who stepped out of line, Izanami however choose to favor Ichika's plea to spare the 199 servants and those said servants have also been assigned as Ichika's personal retainers because Ichika begged his mother so. After that, Izanami appointed one of her personal attendants, Sora, to be the leader of those servants Ichika chose; then and there the personal guard of the only male scion of the clan was established. Of course Ichika treated his servants or his 'nee-sans' very affectionately just like they are his family and not his servants.
'Ichika-sama please stop running around!'
'It is time for your rest now!'
'Ichika-sama you cannot go over the time of your sleep!'
The attendants tried in vain to catch their young ward but their efforts were for nothing since the small boy was too agile to be caught. Ichika however are not untrained physically, Ichika's attendants are not just skilled servants but also very proficient warriors, it is imperative to the clan and even to its servants that they are capable in battle, but despite that they can't seem to catch the small Ichika. Ichika is running around the room and enjoying the game of tag that his servants never even agreed to, going under the bed jumping on the furniture and evading his attendants' attempt to catch him.
'Wait Ichika-sama….'
Soon five of his six attendants started to tire out and are now desperately trying to catch their breath. But sixth who only watched the comedic scene of grown women unable to catch a small child, finally stepped in to stop the young boy's mischief.
(FLASH)
Ichika was caught from behind.
'I've caught you so now you have to go to sleep.'
'Ehhh!? Sora-nee cheated I wasn't looking!'
Ichika whined childishly at Sora who caught him effortlessly.
'Ichika-sama you promised that you would go to sleep if we caught you right?' Sora looked at the young Ichika with a warm smile. Ichika quickly returned the same smile and nodded.
'I promised it so I shall obey it! My word is my bond!'
Ichika happily declared as he raised both his fists. The attendants couldn't help but giggle at their young master's innocence.
Ichika is now laying on a very thick futon laid by his attendants; the small frame of the young boy was cover by Sora with a white blanket. The attendants made sure that everything is in place when Ichika sleeps, making sure that nothing awry that may disturb their young master's slumber.
'Goodnight Sore-nee, Mina-nee, Miyu-nee, Shouko-nee, Kari-nee, Saki-nee!' Ichika bid his six attendants good night with a brilliant smile enough to rival that of the sun's brilliance.
The six attendants smiled back at him, they even blushed because of Ichika's sincerity.
'Sleep well Ichika-sama….'
Sora tucked her young master to sleep and gave him a gentle smile.
After two hours of playing, Ichika finally settled down and is now peacefully sleeping in his futon.
'We should go now.' Sora whispered ever so gently to the attendants and ushered them out of the room. Once outside the room of their young master, Sora scolded the five attendants for their failure earlier.
'Honestly all of you should stop doting on the young master too much, him becoming spoiled is very undesirable. I know that all of you are very fond of the young master but indulging every want that he demands would be detrimental to his development. Remember that our duty as servants is to guard and guide our young master.' Sora started her sermon on the other attendants because of their doting to their young master.
'But we weren't pretending not to catch him, we really couldn't catch the young master, he is too agile.'
'That's right the young master has amazing reaction time to our attempts to catch him.'
Two of the attendants spoke and the others nodded along with them.
'His movements though are not really that quick but they resemble so much the 'Shadow Step' of Yuuko-sama, his impeccable way of avoiding us and then vanishing from our senses are so advance that it already neared the level of a highly trained assasin.'
Sora showed a little surprised when she heard the claim of the attendants.
(At such a young age, he is able to master complicated fast movement techniques, he truly is a prodigy, just like the six.)
Sora expressed her admiration for her young master in her thoughts; she didn't dare speak of it out in the open though.
'I wouldn't be surprised if he mastered more advance techniques other than Shadow Step.'
'Ichika-sama would undoubtedly become the successor of this clan!'
'Our Ichika-sama will surely become the new leader.'
Hearing the attendants expressing their glee on the progress of their young master….
'(Sigh)….'
Sora just sighed when she looked at the now normal behavior of the attendants. Sora noticed the change that underwent in the attendants ever since they started serving Ichika. From gloomy and scowling mannequins, the attendants are now smiling and learned to express themselves more, of course if the presences of the clan members are scarce, acting oddly around the purebloods would elicit a painful outcome.
(Another one to chalk up in the list of Ichika-sama's amazing abilities.)
Sora sighed but her happiness also showed in the form of a small smile gracing her lips.
Sora and the attendants then left the vicinity of Ichika's room and proceeded towards the faintly lit hallways of Ichika's mansion.
2:00am.
'Hmmmmm….'
Ichika stirred from his sleep. The young boy rubbed his dreary eyes awake, Ichika rose from his futon started taking drowsy steps towards the shoji door on his room that leads to the garden right outside his quarters.
'….' Ichika opened the door and went out into the cold early morning. Right outside of Ichika's mansion is a large garden of beautifully arranged flowers and trees, if one is to walk straight deeper into the garden a long flight of stairs that leads to one of the mountain tops await where a thick bamboo forest looms.
'Wait…'
Ichika mumbled dressed only in his light blue kimono called for someone he saw walking towards the inner part of the garden. Without any notion of doubts, the young boy wandered into the garden chasing after the illusory figure, the ghostly frame walked deeper into the garden without stopping despite being called.
'Wait…'
Ichika ran after the illusive form. The chase went on until it reached the long flight of stairs in the depths of the garden, the stairs leading up to one of the mountain tops.
'Wait!' Ichika who now snapped out of his drowsy state screamed at the ghostly frame, Ichika couldn't see the form well but he recognized that it looked at him.
'Wait for me!' Ichika ran up the long flight of stairs hoping to chase after the ghostly form.
A faint chuckle escaped from the stranger when he saw the little frame of the young boy chasing after with clumsy steps.
The stranger walked on with large strides up on to the stairs.
Ichika though got left behind still persevered on following the stranger.
'W-Wait!' Ichika nearly tumbled for a couple of times from hurrying to catch up with the stranger.
After running into long flight of stairs, Ichika who now felt very tired slowed down on his pace but still showed on sign of giving up, the little boy continued to run after the stranger. After a while of running up the long flight of stairs Ichika reached the top only to find himself facing a large bamboo forest.
'Where are you!?'
Ichika screamed when he lost sight of the stranger but despite being lost now, he still braved through the misty bamboo forest in hopes of finding the stranger.
'Where am I?' Ichika mumbled when he found himself surrounded by towering bamboos, the boy is now into the deep part of the bamboo forest. What he can see now is mist and towering bamboos trees, Ichika doesn't know where he is, the boy wandered aimlessly without any idea on where he would end up.
'I'm lost…'
Ichika's eyes started to lace with tears but the boy stopped his voice from releasing a wail but his sniffling began. Looking around he realized that he is all alone, no one to save him, the boy thought of his mother, his nee-chans, everyone he cares for. Ichika in spite of being lost in the middle of the forest he still run forward, he ran through a thicket of prickly bushes and incurred scratches but still the young boy pressed on. Ichika passed many natural obstacles that hindered him but still he persevered and passed over them. But as it is to be expected, Ichika young body started to feel tired, a boy his age should be resting at this hour, not wandering around dangerous bamboo forests chasing after ghostly apparitions.
'(Sniff)'
Ichika sniffled as he staggered in his steps, perhaps he didn't or failed to notice it because of exhaustion and the mist that blinds his sight, Ichika tripped on the uproots of bamboo and fell on to the ground.
'(Sniff)'
Ichika rose from falling down but he remained on his knees, kneeling as if he was ready to give up.
'Uuuuuuuuuuuu!'
Ichika started rubbing his eyes with his left arm, the boy began to cry, he is still a young child with a fragile heart. The thought of being lost in this bamboo maze and never seeing his family started to crush to young boy's heart. Ichika didn't feel fear but he felt despair.
Ichika stood up and started to run full speed ahead, he wasn't paying attention to where he is going because his eyes are clouded with tears, Ichika failed to notice that just beyond the clearing that was covered by the mist, is a very high cliff.
'Uuuuuu!'
Ichika ran full speed without knowing the danger ahead; Ichika's last step fell on no ground but empty air, his last step sealed his doom. Ichika didn't have enough time to notice that he just fell off a cliff. But…
(GRAB)
Before he fell into oblivion a hand caught the young hand and effortlessly pulled him up, saving him from a nasty fall into death arms.
The traumatic event took the young Ichika a few more minutes to recover and gain his consciousness.
'Are you okay?'
Ichika was awakened by a gentle voice. Ichika noticed that he is not falling anymore; instead he is now in the arms of the stranger he had been chasing. Though being with a stranger, Ichika felt comfortable in the stranger's presence as if he is a person close to him.
The stranger released Ichika and set his feet on the ground. Ichika couldn't see the entirety of the stranger's face because it is obscured by the black hair that resembles Ichika's own hairstyle but the little boy knew that the stranger is a man. Garbed in a white kimono with a black sash, the stranger kneeled in front of Ichika and caressed the little boy's scratched cheek.
A gentle smile appeared on the stranger's face, enough to banish Ichika's despair and fears. A powerful aura then enveloped the surroundings, but it lacked oppressiveness, instead it had a very soothing influence enough to calm the most ferocious demons.
'You've grown up Ichika….'
The man smiled at Ichika and looked at his face. The wind blew, the soft gale swept through the bamboo forest. For a brief moment the stranger's hair that is obscuring his face cleared allowing Ichika to see the last part of his face obscured by the hair, with the stranger's hair swaying with the wind Ichika saw a brightly glowing pair of eyes, as dazzling as the glow of the blue moon. The entirety of the stranger's face is revealed to Ichika, to the eyes of the boy, the stranger's unconcealed visage looked like it was carved by gods, it is perfect with no faults at all.
'!'
Ichika widened his eyes in shock. The next words that came out of Ichika's mouth was something spontaneous but also reflected his inner most thoughts. Though this is the first time they met, Ichika used a very familiar way of referring to the stranger.
'Dad?'

Plot[edit]
In the near future, a Japanese scientist creates a high-tech powered exoskeleton called 'Infinite Stratos' (IS). Possessing technology and combat capabilities far surpassing that of any other arms system, the IS threatens to destabilize the world. Faced with such an overpowered weapon, the world's nations enact the 'Alaska Treaty', stating that IS shall never be used for military combat purposes, and that the existing IS technology must be equally distributed to all nations, to prevent any one nation from dominating the others. However, sometime after the IS was introduced, the society undergone a drastic change. As IS can only be operated by women, there is a shift in the power balance between men and women, where women now dominate society over men.
Ten years after the IS was initially introduced, the world has entered a new age of peace. However, a 15-year-old male Japanese teenager named Ichika Orimura changes everything. During an accidental run-in with a hibernating IS suit, it is revealed that he possesses the innate ability to operate an IS - the only male in the world capable of doing so. Seeing his potential, the Japanese government forcibly enrolls the bewildered young man to attend the prestigious Infinite Stratos Academy, a multicultural academy where IS pilots from all over the world are trained. Thus, he starts a busy high school life surrounded by girls training to become expert IS pilots. Realtek network drivers windows 7 64 bit. While they seem to be enjoying their thrilling school life, the danger of looming threats and enemies are never too far away.
Characters[edit]
Main characters[edit]
- Ichika Orimura (織斑 一夏Orimura Ichika)
- Voiced by: Kōki Uchiyama (Japanese); Josh Grelle[4] (English)
- Ichika is a first year student and class representative, as well as Vice-President of the Student Council at IS Academy. His older sister, Chifuyu, is a legendary IS pilot who raised him when the siblings' parents abandoned them at a young age. During the second Mondo Grosso tournament, he was kidnapped by the Phantom Task, that effectively causes Chifuyu to forfeit the match to rescue him, to which he regrets for being a weak brother. As the first male IS pilot, his new reputation has made him somewhat famous as many scientists and engineers would like to study him. He is mainly absent minded and oblivious to the feelings of the girls around him and seems to misunderstand their feelings towards him (though he seems to understand Houki's words during the second last episode of the first season when they almost kissed). Rumor has it that Ichika is aware of the girls' feelings for him, but avoids such affections due being the only male in school, and believes himself to have zero talent for being a suitable man.
- He is a very kind person and he will go to great lengths to achieve a goal he has set for himself. He pilots the Byakushiki (白式, lit. White Expressions) IS,[5] a prototype, one of only two developed 4th generation IS focused on short-range melee attacks. He also possesses Chifuyu's Yukihira Type 2 (雪片弐型Yukihira Nigata), upgraded from the version used by his sister; and Core Number 001, the very first IS core. Later on, Byakushiki undergoes Second Shift shortly after Houki Shinonono acquires her personal unit, Akatsubaki. In the resulting Second Shift form, named Byakushiki Setsura (白式雪羅), it is equipped with a multi-function unit (A.I.) Setsura (雪羅), which has: a high-caliber charged particle cannon, an energy claw for close-quarters combat, and an energy shield with the One-Off ability. In its Second Shift, Byakushiki also gains an increase in mobility through the addition of 4 large wing thrusters, enabling it to execute Double Ignition Boost.[volume & issue needed] In this Second Shift form, it, and Houki's Akatsubaki, are the most advanced IS ever made.
- Houki Shinonono (篠ノ之 箒Shinonono Hōki)
- Voiced by: Yōko Hikasa (Japanese); Monica Rial[4] (English)
- Houki is a first-year student at the IS Academy and Ichika's childhood friend, though they have not seen each other for six years.[6] She has a very long ponytail.[7] Her place of residence is home to a kendodojo, which led to her early interest in kendo. Houki even competes in kendo competitions at a national level, and was the winner of the national tournament that was hosted one year before the story of Infinite Stratos began.[8] She is part of the kendo club at the IS academy. Her older sister, Tabane Shinonono, is the creator of the IS, though their relationship is strained. Six years ago, Ichika agreed to become her boyfriend if she could win the national kendo tournament of their grade. However, the day of the tournament is also the day the IS was introduced to the world. Due to the familial links to Tabane, Houki's family is placed under government protection and Houki is forced to withdraw from the kendo tournament. Since that incident, Houki resents her sister for moving her away from Ichika and abandoning their family.
- Despite not seeing him for a long time, Houki still harbors strong feelings of love for Ichika, as her continuing practice of kendo was her only link to him. She was his initial roommate before the arrivals of Charlotte Dunois and Tatenashi Sarashiki, and tends to get jealous when other girls are around him. Originally not possessing a personal IS, in Volume 3 she receives and pilots the Akatsubaki (紅椿, lit. Red Camellia) IS from Tabane, one of only two developed 4th generation IS and a short-range melee-class IS, armed with twin katana named Amatsuki (雨月, 'Rainy Moon') and Karaware (空裂, 'Cracked Sky'). The Akatsubaki has a One-Off ability called Kenran Butō (絢爛舞踏, 'Magnificent Dance'), which allows Houki to replenish both her own and other IS's energy when she comes in contact with them. However, because she is still unskilled as a pilot and her compatibility with the IS is only at grade C, she is still considered to be on the same level of the other girls. As of Volume 7, her compatibility has risen to grade S.
- Cecilia Alcott (セシリア・オルコットSeshiria Orukotto)
- Voiced by: Yukana (Japanese); Brittney Karbowski[4] (English)
- Cecilia is a first year student at the IS Academy and is an IS Cadet Representative of the United Kingdom. Her family is part of the British aristocracy. Her father, a spoiled and timid man who had little influence both inside and outside the Alcott family, makes her swear to never marry a weak man (a difficulty due to the shift in social status). Upon losing her parents in a deadly train accident when she is 12 years old, Cecilia is forced to protect her family fortune from those who wish to claim a stake of it. After showing high IS aptitude, she makes a deal with the British government, who, in exchange for protecting her family's assets, wants her to go to the IS Academy as a Cadet Representative to gather data for their latest 3rd-generation model. She was almost defeated by Ichika for the position of class representative but won due to a technicality, but later cedes her position to Ichika. She soon starts to see him as a true man and falls in love with him. She pilots the Blue Tears (ブルー・ティアーズBurū Tiāzu) IS, a long-range sniper-class IS, which can deploy four remotely controlled 'drones' (B.I.T.S. System) for engaging enemies at medium range. The Blue Tears IS is also equipped with the Starlight Mark III (スターライトmkIIISutāraito Māku Surī), a large laser rifle, and Interceptor (インターセプターIntāseputā), a short blade used for close-range combat. In the anime, Blue Tears is shown to also have a pair of rocket launchers attached to the hips, in place of two other Blue Tears shown in the light novels, used at close to long-range on different occasions.
- Lingyin Huang (凰 鈴音Huáng Língyīn, 'Rin Fan') in the English dub
- Voiced by: Asami Shimoda (Japanese); Hilary Haag[4] (English)
- Lingyin is a first year student at the IS Academy, the class representative of her class and is an IS Cadet Representative of China. As with Houki Shinonono, Lingyin has been friends with Ichika Orimura since their early childhood. She has been in love with Ichika ever since he protected her against four school delinquents. Lingyin at first becomes extremely hostile to Ichika after he forgets the details of a promise they made as kids (in which it was implied; although not explicitly stated, that if she became an excellent cook, he would become her boyfriend). She is also called 'Ling' (鈴Rin, 'Rin' in the English dub). Her family ran a Chinese restaurant that Ichika would often eat at before Ling's parents divorced and she moved back to China. She pilots the Shenlong (Shinryū, 神竜lit. Spirit Dragon) a short-to-medium-range melee-type IS armed with the Ryuhou (龍砲lit. Dragon Cannon), powerful 'Impact Cannons' hidden in the shoulder armor. It is also armed with the Sōten Gagetsu (双天牙月), a pair of liuyedao that can be connected to form a naginata-like weapon.
- Charlotte Dunois (シャルロット・デュノアSharurotto Dyunoa)
- Voiced by: Kana Hanazawa (Japanese); Shannon Emerick[4] (English)
- Charlotte is a first year student at the IS Academy and is an IS Cadet Representative of France. Charlotte initially calls herself Charles Dunois (シャルル・デュノアSharuru Dunoa), posing as the second 'male' IS pilot student that was transferred into Ichika's class. However, her plan is to spy on Ichika, discover how he is able to pilot an IS and acquire data from his IS (which at the time was considered the most advanced 3rd-generation unit). Because she enrolls as a male IS pilot, she is paired with Ichika as roommates since they are 'both' guys. As a result of this arrangement, Ichika later discovers her true gender when he inadvertently walks in on her showering. Upon learning that Charlotte's father and his corporation used her to spy on him, Ichika decides to help protect her. She later falls in love with Ichika due to his bravery. She pilots the Rafale Revive Custom II (ラファール・リヴァイヴ・カスタムIIRafāru Revaivu Kasutamu Tsū) IS, a 2nd-generation custom multi-range IS possessing a wide array of interchangeable weapons allowing for fast battlefield adaptation and capable of performing the Ignition Boost. Her weapons, once called upon, can be used by another IS pilot as long as she grants permission. Due to her training to make her a convincing male prior to her entry to the IS Academy, Charlotte uses 'boku' (an informal male equivalent of 'I') when referring to herself. Following the Silver Gospel Incident in later novels, Charlotte becomes Laura's roommate.
- Laura Bodewig (ラウラ・ボーデヴィッヒRaura Bōdevihhi)
- Voiced by: Marina Inoue (Japanese); Tiffany Grant[4] (English)
- Laura is a first-year student at the IS Academy and an IS Cadet Representative of Germany. A genetically-engineered super-soldier, Laura is the commander of the German IS special forces, Schwarzer Hase (シュヴァルツェア・ハーゼShuvarutsea Hāze, German for 'Black Rabbit'). She has a red eye and long silver hair; but her most distinct feature being a black eyepatch covering her glowing-yellow left eye, the result of a failed nano-machine experiment meant to help her pilot an IS better. Laura was under Chifuyu's tutelage when the latter was an instructor for the German army following the 2nd Mondo Grosso, and holds Chifuyu in high regard for helping her and was her role model when she suffered a depression for not being the strongest.[9] Her current name is actually a code name given to her by the German military, as she was artificially created from human DNA. She has an elder sister, Chloe Chronicle, who is capable of infiltrating a person's mind through virtual reality via manipulate the modules around them.
- Laura pilots the Schwarzer Regen (「シュヴァルツェア・レーゲンShuvarutsea Rēgen, German for 'Black Rain') IS, a medium-to-long-range artillery-type IS. The Schwarzer Regen possess several remotely guided tethers, which Laura uses to capture and restrain her opponents while she attacks them with a slow-firing but extremely powerful railgun. The Schwarzer Regen also possesses an 'Active Inertial Canceller' (AIC), which can be used to stop the movement of projectiles and even another IS. While a very powerful defense, the canceller can only be used against one target at a time, and is only effective at very close range.
- Laura's original purpose for coming to the IS Academy is to punish Ichika, whom she blames for his sister withdrawing from the 2nd Mondo Grosso (unaware that Ichika was kidnapped at the time and Chifuyu withdrew in order to save him). She initially defeats Ling and Cecilia but struggles in the tournament against the pair of Ichika and Charlotte, as they had planned their attacks beforehand (unlike Laura, who does not excel with allies). After Charlotte beats her during the class tournament, the dormant VT-System within Laura's IS activates, causing her to go berserk. She is then stopped by Ichika, who also calms and console her in the Inter-IS subspace. After consoling her in the subspace, she realizes what Chifuyu sees in him and falls in love with him. Upon learning Ichika's strength is his freedom to choose and helping those around him and Chifuyu's advice, Laura decides to become Ichika's bodyguard to protect him against the other girls by kissing him in front of his class and professes that he is her 'wife', a misunderstanding of her knowledge of Japanese culture, and she will not accept any objections.
- Tatenashi Sarashiki (更識 楯無Sarashiki Tatenashi)
- Voiced by: Chiwa Saitō (Japanese); Jessica Calvello (English)
- Tatenashi is the Student Council President of the IS Academy, as well as the 17th leader of the Sarashiki Family and the IS Representative of Russia. The long history of her traditional family, it's actually a secret organization that's been protesting Phantom Task for over 50 years. She is the Academy's most powerful IS pilot (the position of Student Council President is only given to the strongest IS Academy student). She is assigned to protect Ichika after the Silver Gospel incident and used her position as president to become Ichika's roommate (much to Houki's jealousy). Tatenashi likes to flirt with Ichika, teasing him with her body and making him uncomfortable most of the time. She asked for his help in getting her younger sister, Kanzashi's, IS operational in time for the school competition. Afterwards, she may have developed feelings for him. She is the pilot of the Mysterious Lady (ミステリアス・レイディMisuteriasu Reidi) IS. At the end of Volume 8, she reveals her true name Katana Sarashiki (更識 刀奈Sarashiki Katana) to Ichika, indicating some affection has grown between them.
- Kanzashi Sarashiki (更識 簪Sarashiki Kanzashi)
- Voiced by: Suzuko Mimori (Japanese); Kira Vincent-Davis[10] (English)
- Kanzashi is Tatenashi's younger sister and the IS Representative of Japan. Kanzashi is a fan of anime heroes. Despite being an IS Representative, she does not have a personal IS. The company that was developing her personal IS also produced the Byakushiki. Due to Ichika's rise in fame, the development of his IS unit was given priority over hers, and as a result, she harbors a resentment towards Ichika, not that he had anything to do with the decision. In addition, Kanzashi has always competed against her older sister and feels incompetent when compared to her. However, thanks to Ichika's efforts (unaware of Tatenashi's assistance until later), her IS the Uchigane Nishiki (打鉄弐式Uchigane Nishiki) is made operational. Kanzashi falls in love with Ichika for his kindness in helping her, and her view towards Tatenashi changes when she realizes that she has been competing with an idealized conception of Tatenashi and comes to be more accepting of her own accomplishments.
IS Academy staff[edit]
- Chifuyu Orimura (織斑 千冬Orimura Chifuyu)
- Voiced by: Megumi Toyoguchi (Japanese); Luci Christian[4] (English)
- Chifuyu is Ichika's 24-year-old older sister, and homeroom teacher of his class at the Academy. She was the Japanese pilot for the first-generation IS machines and was said to be the strongest IS pilot at one point before retiring. During her retirement, she looked after her brother and raised him by herself after their parents abandoned them at a young age. Despite her indifference towards Ichika, Chifuyu deeply cares for her brother, as she sees him as her only family. Chifuyu was also the one who enrolled Ichika to the IS Academy to keep him safe from other countries. Chifuyu once wielded Yukihira, a powerful IS energy blade now in Ichika's possession. Chifuyu was a close friend of Tabane Shinonono, which explains how their younger siblings became childhood friends. Tabane also implies (heavily) that Chifuyu piloted the 'White Knight' (白騎士Shirokishi)–the first ever developed IS that protected Japan from a massive missile attack 10 years prior to the series. Her IS currently is called the Kurezakura.
- Maya Yamada (山田 真耶Yamada Maya)
- Voiced by: Noriko Shitaya (Japanese); Cynthia Martinez[4] (English)
- Yamada is the substitute instructor of Ichika's class, possessing a noticeably large bust. She used to be an IS Representative Cadet of Japan. In the anime, her skills become very apparent, as during a training exercise she was able to single-handedly defeat both Cecilia and Lingyin, in their personal IS units, using only a mass-produced Rafale Revive IS.
Other characters[edit]
- Tabane Shinonono (篠ノ之 束Shinonono Tabane)
- Voiced by: Yukari Tamura (Japanese); Allison Keith[4] (English)
- Tabane is Houki's older sister and the creator of the IS. She mysteriously disappeared after introducing the IS technology, and is currently the most wanted person in the world as many seek her for her knowledge about it. She is a close friend of Chifuyu, Ichika's older sister. Houki resents being related to her, due to what happened to their family and Ichika six years ago, and has hated her since. Tabane and Chifuyu's connections, is the reason Ichika and Houki became childhood friends. Despite her normally cheerful nature, she has a condescending view towards outsiders and strangers and will often treat anybody besides Chifuyu, Houki, and Ichika with disdain. Tabane has a thing for rabbits, hence the metal bunny ears on her head and the carrot pod she arrived in to give Houki her IS. During a conversation with Chifuyu she admits to having initially reprogrammed the first IS to be compatible for Ichika, however she doesn't know how the Byakushiki moves while Ichika is piloting it. She is shown to be very proficient in combat when she easily held her own against three members of Phantom Task.
- Clarissa Harfouch (クラリッサ・ハルフォーフKurarissa Harufōfu)
- Voiced by: Kei Mizusawa (Japanese); Shannon Emerick (English)
- Clarissa is Laura's comrade and the deputy commander of Schwarzer Hase. Like Laura, she also wears an eyepatch. An Otaku, Clarissa teaches Laura about Japanese culture through anime and manga (which is, even in reality, not very accurate). She is the pilot of the IS Schwarzer Zweig (シュヴァルツェア・ツヴァイクShuvarutsea Tsuvaiku, German for 'Black Branch').
- Natasha Fairs (ナターシャ・ファイルスNatāsha Fairusu)
- Natasha is the IS Representative Cadet of the United States. In the novels, she was the test pilot for the Silver Gospel (銀の福音(シルバリオ・ゴスペル)Shirubario Gosuperu), an IS co-built with Israel, before she loses control of it when it goes berserk. It is only when the intervention by Ichika and the rest of his comrades are they able to stop the Silver Gospel. As gratitude for saving her life, Natasha kisses Ichika on the cheek as thanks, much to the anger of the girls.
- Dan Gotanda (五反田 弾Gotanda Dan)
- Voiced by: Makoto Yasumura (Japanese); Christopher Ayres[4] (English)
- Dan is a close friend of Ichika's back from middle school. He is often threatened (and sometimes beaten) by his younger sister, Ran. Dan is also the only other notable male character besides Ichika in the series.
- Ran Gotanda (五反田 蘭Gotanda Ran)
- Voiced by: Noriko Obato (Japanese); Luci Christian[4] (English)
- Ran is Dan's younger sister. She is currently in her third year of middle school and is the student council president. Ran apparently has a crush on Ichika. She plans to enroll at the IS academy, after revealing that she ranked A on an IS aptitude test.[11] A few of the other girls such as Lingyin already see her as a rival for Ichika's affection.
Phantom Task[edit]
- Madoka Orimura (織斑 マドカOrimura Madoka)
- Voiced by: Ai Kayano (Japanese); Luci Christian (English)
- Madoka is Chifuyu's younger sister and Ichika's twin sister who has a striking resemblance to Chifuyu and harbors a grudge against her (possibly something having to do with their separation), and is a primary antagonist of the series. It is revealed, Madoka is a member of the Phantom Task organization, under the codename: M. She pilots the Silent Zephyrs, a 3rd generation IS stolen from England and based on Cecilia's Blue Tears. It appears to be more advanced than its predecessor. She later pilots the 'Black Knight' that was given to her by Tabane for unknown reasons.
- Squall Meusel (スコール・ミューゼルSukōru Myūzeru)
- Voiced by: Fumi Hirano (Japanese); Carli Mosier (English)
- Squall is the leader of Phantom Task. Not much is known about her. She combines with an unusual IS called the Golden Dawn, its generation is unknown. Squall has enough confidence in her skills, and is a highly trained and dangerous fighter with incredible reflexes. She usually displays herself as polite, and ladylike in front of other. While she can be very ruthless when she want to be and doesn't mind using force, but doesn't like overdoing unnecessary things when she order Madoka not to kill the soldiers at the American base. Her main objective seems to collect data on Ichika's Byakushiki (in White Knight form) for a purpose yet to be revealed.
- Autumn (オータムŌtamu)
- Voiced by: Yuka Nishigaki (Japanese); Shelley Calene-Black (English)
- Autumn is a rash, hot headed member who fought with Ichika during the IS academy's anniversary and almost succeeded in stealing the Byakushiki, with a device called the 'Remover', only to fail at the last minute when Tatenashi interfered. She pilots the Arachne, an eight-legged 2nd generation IS that was stolen from the USA. She is hinted to have a homosexual relationship with Squall, uncharacteristically blushing like a little girl upon seeing Squall.
Others[edit]
- Honne Nohotoke (布仏 本音Nohotoke Honne)
- Voiced by: Mai Kadowaki (Japanese); Monica Passley (English)
- Kiyoka Aikawa (相川 清香Aikawa Kiyoka)
- Voiced by: Arise Satō (Japanese); Allison Sumrall (English)
Media[edit]
Light novels[edit]
Infinite Stratos began as a light novel series written by Izuru Yumizuru, with illustrations provided by Okiura.[12] The first volume was published by Media Factory under their MF Bunko J label on May 31, 2009. As of April 25, 2018, twelve volumes have been released.[13]
Due to conflict between the publisher (Media Factory) and the author, publication of the light novels was under suspension.[14][15] Later, the author confirmed that he is simultaneously writing a new work and continuing Infinite Stratos through Kodansha.[16] The novels are now being published by Overlap under their Overlap Bunko imprint, with CHOCO replacing Okiura as illustrator. Reprints of the first seven volumes begun on April 25, 2013, starting with the first two volumes.[17]
The series will end in the 13th volume.[18]
The light novels are being translated into traditional Chinese and the first volume was published and released by Sharp Point Press[19] on November 9, 2010. The Chinese translations of the light novels were originally under an indefinite suspension.[20] Yumizuru cited that Media Factory's overseas representatives were engaging in contracts with foreign publishers without the author's permission as the reason for the suspension.[20] Yumizuru had also stated that he was willing to fight over this matter in court if necessary.[20]
On February 27, 2018, J-Novel Club announced it had licensed and begun translating the series into English.[21]
